6 Communities To Join In New York.

Take the “work” out of networking with these curated communities.

When I “moved” to New York a few years ago, every time I mentioned it to friends or family the common response would be about how fast-paced it is, how nobody has time for anybody, or how it’s a beast of its own. No doubt, it is, and don’t get me wrong, I had my apprehensions about trading siestas in Barcelona with hustle and grit in New York. But not for too long!

It was pretty effortless to find social and professional circles as long as you went out with an open mind. My previous roles in business development in the non-profit and maritime sectors both involved actively engaging with stakeholders and building business relationships. So, I never cringed at the idea of going out and “networking”. In fact, I quite enjoyed Networking inside the Big Apple as an outsider.

Until COVID hit.

What transpired during those 1.5 years is not just that events dwindled, crowds dispersed, and people left the city, but I became a homebody too. It took a little more effort to scout for events, get out of PJs and show up IRL.

But, some of the most amazing people I met were at the events I almost ended up skipping!

Especially, as a founder, the energy you get from the community is unmatched and when I recently wrote about my Fairly new and modest founder journey, I got a lot of questions about navigating the tech/startup/social ecosystem in New York so I decided to highlight some of the best Summer Socials I attended in 2022 in case it helps you in any way:

1. The Bloom by Jasmine Anouna

Jasmine has built an amazing community of passionate social impact advocates who are in job roles ranging from gender justice to climate innovation and mental health. Her newsletter, The Bloom chronicles developments across impact intersections and is a resource for anyone who is or wants to be in this space. I had the awesome opportunity of attending a picnic potluck that Jasmine organized at Central Park this summer.

2. Small Biz PR Group by Gloria…
