Whether you’re a job seeker, friend seeker, or knowledge seeker, we’re almost always seeking to expand our network. Of course, in a fast-paced city like New York, it can be intimidating not knowing where to start. I navigated life in this maximum city knowing only a handful of people but slowly building on those connections via channels that felt natural to me.

Friends (of friends and friends): Look within your circle of friends and take the initiative to connect with their friends, friends’ friends, plus ones and their friends, and so on and so forth. If you find networking exhausting, at least with this method you will find yourself in familiar territory as a starting point.

Importantly, be the person that offers to connect other people based on interests, professions, backgrounds etc. Soon you’ll find yourself effortlessly mingling between and across circles. Some of the closest friends I made during my MBA happened to be partners of the classmates I had in school.

Interests: New York offers an ocean of industry events and networking platforms with a special focus. Here I share the top 3 resources I utilized to not only meet like-minded people but also to stay connected with industries I was interested in.
