Why The Positive Mindset Is Not A Key To Success In Entrepreneurship
What we need is a cup of reality, not positivity.
As entrepreneurs, we are often reminded about staying optimistic about the future potential and keeping our chin up. We’re told to “see the good” in every setback and to keep pushing forward with grit.
“See the good” is different from imagining the good.
One is practical the other is delusional.
Especially in startup land, when you work for weeks to pursue a sales meeting with a high-potential client, even getting a response can make you start building sandcastles in your mind.
When you get positive feedback from a mentor or advisor or the ultimate sought-after investor, it can send you on a whirlwind of fantasy land.
You may imagine what being a part of the portfolio will be like.
You think about how you will close a sales lead and get 6 figure revenues.
You get giddy thinking about top media outlets responding to your pitches.
You get the gist.
