An unpopular opinion that has now become popular? That New Year Resolutions suck. Big time! Think about how many times you have started the year with the thought that “This is it. This is the year for me.”
Whether that is fitness goals, meditation practices, skill development, or sleep hygiene, most of us have fallen into the trap of putting timelines for when and how we will follow through on a goal and turn around our lives.
We are suckers for turning a new leaf. We love a good “success story”. We love the idea of “overnight” successes that we see around us.
Only to fail. Again. And again. And again.
Understand why resolutions fail
It’s not your fault. Adulting sucks and life is messy and unpredictable. Chaotic even. The year starts with us feeling refreshed and recharged because we’ve had a good break and have done some reflection and feel like somehow the new year will bring in a different form of discipline.
